Occupational Therapy Dealing with Cognition
Andrew Persch, PHD, OTR/L, BCP

Occupational Therapy practitioners are experts in measuring functional cognition, with encompasses assessment of every day task performance (self-care, household management, childcare, workplace tasks). They specialize in identifying performance-based cognitive impairments, which range from subtle to obvious.
Through evaluating individuals’ cognitive strengths and limitations in the context of performing everyday life activities, practitioners can help them identify strategies to compensate for cognitive loss when possible and to adapt the environment to improve their independence in participation in ADLs and IADLs.
